Every angler knows the feeling. You pull a jig out of the box and it's beautiful — deep flash, sharp finish, colors that look alive in the light. Then you fish it. Really fish it. A few good albies, a rocky bottom, a striper that hits like a freight train, and by the end of the season that gorgeous finish is chipped, scuffed, and dull. The flash that triggered strikes on day one is gone.
We got tired of it. So we did something about it. This is the story of how CastMan ARMOR came to be.

Why We Went This Route
The CastMan jig earned its reputation on action and flash. It catches numerous fish. But we kept hearing the same thing from anglers — and seeing it ourselves in our own boxes — the finish didn't last. Foil peeled at the edges. Paint chipped where teeth and structure caught it. A jig that should fish for years started looking tired after a handful of trips.
We had a choice. We could keep making a good jig that wore out like every other jig on the market, or we could solve the actual problem. We chose to solve it.
The answer wasn't a better paint job. It was to stop leaving the finish exposed in the first place. Instead of painting a jig and sending it out the door, we seal the entire finish — foil, paint, detail — beneath a thick, optically clear epoxy shell. 1.2mm of hard, glass-clear armor encapsulating everything that makes the jig work. The flash isn't on the surface where it gets destroyed. It's locked inside, protected, permanent.
That's the whole idea behind ARMOR. Not a coat of clear over the top as an afterthought — a genuine structural shell that becomes part of the lure. It's why the jig has that deep, three-dimensional glow when the light hits it, and it's why that glow is still there after the fish that would have stripped an ordinary jig bare.

The 72-Hour Cure — Why We Don't Rush It
Here's the part most brands would never talk about, because it's the part that costs time and money: a proper epoxy shell can't be rushed. Ours takes 72 hours to cure, fully, before a jig is ever cleared to ship.
We could cut that down. Flash-curing epoxy is possible, and plenty of manufacturers do it to move product faster. But a rushed cure is a weaker cure. It traps micro-bubbles, it leaves the shell softer than it should be, and it's the difference between a coating that chips under stress and one that shrugs it off. We weren't willing to trade durability — the entire reason ARMOR exists — for speed.
So here's what those 72 hours actually look like:
The pour. Each jig is coated by hand under controlled conditions. Temperature and humidity matter enormously for epoxy — too cold and it won't level, too humid and the surface clouds — so the environment is controlled before a single jig is dipped. The goal is a shell of consistent 1.2mm thickness with zero bubbles and a mirror-flat surface.
The slow level and set. Fresh epoxy has to be given time to self-level and set evenly, without sag, without runs, without dust settling into the surface. Rush this stage and you get an uneven shell that looks cheap and fishes worse. We let physics do its work.
The full 72-hour hardening. This is where the shell reaches its final hardness and clarity. A jig pulled early might look done — but it hasn't reached the impact resistance and abrasion resistance that make ARMOR what it is. We wait the full window. Every time.
The QA gate. Only after the full cure does a jig get inspected. We check for clarity, for bubbles, for even thickness, for adhesion — the shell has to be bonded, not just sitting on top. Anything with a flaw in the coat doesn't get sold. It gets pulled. When you're staking your name on durability, the inspection at the end matters as much as the pour at the start.
Three days per batch is a long time in a world that wants everything faster. We think it's exactly why ARMOR holds up when other jigs don't.

Why ARMOR Is Better From the Surf
If there's one place a jig's finish gets punished, it's the surf. And it's where ARMOR earns its name.
Surf fishing is brutal on tackle. You're casting into wind for distance, dragging retrieves through sand, bouncing off rock and jetty structure, and doing it cast after cast in the most corrosive environment there is — saltwater and grit working on your lure every second it's wet. An ordinary painted jig starts losing its finish almost immediately out there. Sand alone acts like sandpaper on exposed foil.
ARMOR was built for exactly this. That 1.2mm shell means the sand, the rock, the shells, and the structure that would scour a standard jig raw just slide off a hard, sealed surface. The foil never touches any of it — the epoxy takes the abuse instead.
There's a flash advantage too. Surf water is rarely gin-clear; it's churned, sandy, and low-visibility. In that water, flash is everything — it's how a predator finds your jig in the wash. Because ARMOR seals the holographic foil beneath an optically clear shell, that flash stays bright and color-shifting trip after trip, instead of fading to a dull scuff by mid-season. The jig that pulls fish through the surf in October is the same jig that looked deadly in July.
And there's a practical edge: the hard shell and dense profile cast clean and cut wind, which matters when you're trying to reach a fish beyond the bar. A jig that flies, holds its flash, and survives the beach is a jig you can fish hard and trust.
